Whether you're interested in Russian literature, history or music, or you just want to be able to talk to Russian people, you're sure to enjoy learning this language. It is the most widely spoken language in the Slavic family, which also includes Polish, Czech, Slovak, Ukranian, Bulgarian and several other languages. Learning Russian will make it much easier for you to learn any of these languages.
Don't be intimidated by the Cyrillic alphabet: you can learn it very quickly, and you'll soon be on your way to reading Tolstoy, Chekhov and Dostoyevsky in their original language!
Group Russian Courses in Toronto
Hansa offers three levels of group Russian classes. These eight-week programs are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Books and materials are included in the course fee. Payment and registration must be received before the registration deadline.
Our introductory Russian course is ideal for students with no prior knowledge of the language. You will cover units 1 through 5 of Beginner's Russian with Interactive Online Workbook (included in your course fee), an excellent textbook with extensive online activities, videos and audio. Topics covered at this level include the alphabet, pronunciation, numbers, greetings, singular and plural forms, everyday vocabulary, conversational formulas, questions, present, past and future verb forms.
Level 2 is for learners who have language survival skills in Russian, can ask simple questions, make brief statements and read simple texts. It covers units 6-11 of Beginner's Russian with Interactive Online Workbook (included in your course fee). The course begins with a review of grammar and vocabulary studied at level 1, then moves on to enrich your knowledge of the following themes: likes and dislikes, travel, describing places, dative and genitive forms, home, food, restaurants, and visiting the doctor.
Please note: material will be covered at the pace of the class; some of the above topics may not be covered, as the course will be geared towards the needs of the class as a whole. Some of the curriculum may be modified at the instructor's discretion.
