Group Portuguese Courses in Toronto
Hansa offers three levels of group Portuguese classes, all of which use the book Fala Brasil (by Pierre Coudry & Elizabeth Fontao) as the primary resource. The curriculum is focused on Portuguese as it is spoken in Brazil; however, there will also be discussion of how European Portuguese differs from Brazilian Portuguese. The eight-week program is held:
- Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
or
- Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
or
- Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM
Books and materials are included within the course tuition. Payment and registration must be received before the registration deadline.

Course Description
Our introductory Portuguese course is ideal for students without any prior knowledge of the language. Units 1 to 5 of Fala Brasil (textbook included in course fee) will be covered. Themes covered include the following: introductions, vocabulary for common topics (seasons, weather, colours, food, sports, hobbies, the human body, familiar objects, clothing, etc.), describing places and people, ordering food in a restaurant, making hotel and travel reservations, and speaking on the phone. Grammar topics include masculine and feminine nouns, singular and plural forms, regular verbs (and common irregular ones), questions and negation, past and future tenses, articles, possessives and demonstratives.
Course Description
The Level 2 Portuguese course reviews units 1 to 5 of Fala Brasil and goes on to cover units 6 to 10. Themes include money, shopping, work, Brazilian regional culture, clothing, family, and music. Grammar topics include present continuous, irregular verbs, comparatives and superlatives, haver, ficar, saber, poder, querer, pronouns, diminutive forms, past tenses including past perfect, prepositions (para, por, de, até), pronouns (reflexive, direct object, indirect object), direct and indirect speech.
Course Description
Hansa's Level 3 Portuguese course reviews everything in level 1 and 2 and goes on to finish Fala Brasil. Themes include haircuts, renting an apartment, correspondence, reading fiction, phone conversations, emergencies, eating out. Grammar topics include suffixes, prepositions, present and past perfect, passive voice, imperatives, continuous tenses, conjunctions, and the subjunctive.
Please note: material will be covered at the pace of the class; some of the above topics may not be covered, as the course will be geared towards the needs of the class as a whole. Some of the curriculum may be modified at the instructor's discretion.

Please note: All Portuguese lessons are held at Hansa's 2160 Yonge Street campus. For private classes held off campus, within Toronto, an additional 35% surcharge will be added to the course fee.
